Ashtanga Mysore – A Beginner’s Experience

Ashtanga Mysore – A Beginner’s Experience

When I was first offered the opportunity to come for the Ashtanga Mysore class at Art of Yoga, I had some serious doubts and reservations. Firstly, like most beginners, I questioned my own flexibility and stamina to even partake in such a class. Furthermore, I assumed that the session was from 6.30-9.30 am – a solid THREE hours. And finally, the thought of waking up before sunrise completely deterred me from even trying.

I started practicing in 2008/2009, during my undergraduate days in Vancouver, BC. I remember wanting to take up a physical practice - ballet, pilates and yoga were on my radar. After checking the pricing for all three practices, yoga proved to be the cheapest. Plus, accompanied with my student discount on monthly passes and (almost but not really) free bus card, I could go to classes without feeling a huge pinch. So, yoga it was!

Natalie Lim's yoga 'journey' started when she selected yoga as an alternative form of exercise while her knee injury healed. She realized she didn't know her body at all and decided to start practising on her own at home. She sealed her love affair with yoga by taking her teacher's training. The rest is history.
