Ashtanga Yoga Beginners 2-Week Course – Intake 12

July 26 @ 7:00 pm - August 4 @ 6:30 pmSGD300

What is the Ashtanga Yoga Beginners Course About?

This two-week Ashtanga Yoga Beginners course will introduce to you the Ashtanga system as developed and taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. It is designed to equip the student with a strong foundation and prepare them for the Mysore room. It will cover, in a very systematic and methodical way, the core concepts of Ashtanga Yoga along with repeated, guided asana practice so as to build a strong physical foundation before moving on to more challenging postures. You will be taught correct breathing, the foundational postures of the primary series and everything you need to know to build a stable and peaceful self-practice.

What is Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of Yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. This text was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Pattabhi Jois during the duration of his studies with Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927.

It is a powerful system of practice designed to purify the body, nervous system and mind. One of the unique features of Ashtanga yoga is that it links a set sequence of postures together, synchronised with the breath. This is called vinyasa.

To realise the full purifiying effects of the practice it is important to slowly learn the sequence step by step. This takes great patience accept where the body is in a posture and allow it to unfold over time. It is not uncommon for it to take months or years to understand and be able to safely do a posture (asana).

Parampara is knowledge that is passed in succession from teacher to student. It is a Sanskrit word that denotes the principle of transmitting knowledge in its most valuable form; knowledge based on direct and practical experience. It is the basis of any lineage: the teacher and student form the links in the chain of instruction that has been passed down for thousands of years. In order for yoga instruction to be effective, true and complete, it should come from within parampara.

Who Is This For?

The Ashtanga method and it’s fundamental principles will be explained and experienced.

Over six sessions, lay the foundation for a sustainable long-term practice and build the confidence to move through it at home or in the Shala.
