About Athena

Athena Bakar has never been able to stay put in a place for too long. She often finds herself wandering in another country for months at a time, one of which led her to Rishikesh, India to attain her 500hr certificate. She truly believes her yoga mat is her home and hopes her students feel the same sense of security and solace she feels when they get onto their mat. At Art of Yoga she teaches both the Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga classes in addition to assisting with the new AoY retail space.


Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga comes from the Taoist tradition and focuses on passive, seated postures that target the connective tissues in the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Poses are held for anywhere between one and five minutes.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow

This class contains a series of postures that flow naturally from one to the next. Focus is placed on movement, alignment, flexibility, strength and integration with breath. Poses are held for shorter duration than in a Hatha Yoga or Hatha Flow class.
